The park is known for its wide lake, small islands, and lush trees, and offers a calm atmosphere in the middle of the city. At its center is a large artificial lake with small islands; near Yuexiu Park Station (metro Line 2)
It has three large lakes and four smaller ones, and is known for its subtropical scenery. The park is named after Liuhua Bridge, an archaeological site located northeast of the lake.
The park is divided into four areas:
- The northern area, a long, narrow meadow stretching along both sides of the lake, includes a banyan tree ground, an elephant ground, badminton courts, a floating hills garden, and Furongzhou Island (Hibiscus Island), as well as a bird island of more than 3000 square meters that is home to tens of thousands of herons, with dedicated bird-watching areas and platforms.
- The eastern area includes a Xishuangbanna-style garden with waterfalls, “Stream-Washing Girl” (a scenic spot), a rose garden, and the Nanhai Fishing Village Restaurant.
- The central area is known for its banks shaded by banyan trees, the Xingguang Garden Restaurant, and a fitness garden.
- The southern area, next to the Guangzhou Children’s Palace, includes a large pine forest, as well as Bolin Café, Taoyuan Restaurant, and greenhouses for shade plants, providing a calm atmosphere. The western end of the park is a bonsai garden, while the eastern end has the famous Liuhua bird garden.
