Gulong Xia

The forest adventure kingdom Gulong Xia is located in Qingyuan, within the Binjiang Valley, in Qingxin District, Qingyuan City, 70 km from the center of Guangzhou, at the junction of the Guangqing Expressway, the Qinglian Expressway (Xu–Guang Expressway) and the Shanzan Expressway. The great Gulong Gorge lies between towering cliffs with a height difference of up to 1000 meters, and combines waterfalls, deep pools, unique rocks, and dense forests. The gorge is known for its sheer cliffs, lofty peaks, flowing silvery waterfalls, fast streams and dense virgin rainforests that block out the sunlight, giving pleasant weather all year round.

Before the trip: Preparations and steps

Essential items checklist:
· Change of clothes: quick-dry clothes, underwear, and a towel are essentials, because you will get completely wet.
· Footwear: wear “dong dong” shoes with a heel or wading shoes, as flip-flops can easily be swept away.
· Waterproof gear: a waterproof phone pouch (test it beforehand to make sure no water leaks in) and goggles (to keep water out and prevent eye irritation).
· Other items: a water scoop or water gun (you can get one as a gift at the entrance of the area after leaving a positive review, or bring your own), a plastic bag for wet clothes, and sunscreen.


Safety and experience tips

· Age restrictions: children under 1.2 meters and people over 60 cannot take part in the full rafting.
· Getting off the boat safely: the finish area is slippery because of algae, and the water depth varies. Be very careful when getting off; it is best for one person to get off first and hold the rubber boat steady, then the other gets off, to avoid slipping or falling into the water.
· Riding position: on sections with steep drops, lean your body forward, press your legs tightly together with your companion’s, and hold the side safety ropes firmly.
